UPPER RIVERSIDE, London SE10
Facing the Thames along the north eastern section of Greenwich Peninsula is the Upper Riverside development, a captivating row of five polished glass towers comprising over 1,000 new apartments developed by Knight Dragon.
This section of the peninsula, the former gasworks site at Greenwich, forms part of a larger development made up of seven neighbourhoods delivering more than 15,000 new homes on 150 acres of land.
The first two high-rise towers, completed in 2018, are designed by SOM (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill) architects. The five towers are arranged in a cascading sequence and form a distinctive peninsula skyline with lower buildings positioned closer to The O2 Arena. The buildings have a signature glass and honeyed stone façade and feature outdoor terraces and rooftop garden space.
Private tenure residents will have access to the Upper Riverside Club, housed in Building 2, which feature a swimming pool on the 15th floor. Residents also have access to a shared lounge, private cinema, games room, dining room, dining terrace and BBQ space, as well as meeting rooms, library and co-working areas.
The Upper Riverside landscaping has a riverfront promenade dotted with stepped seating overlooking the river and incorporates a series of shallow paddling and reflection water pools. The public realm will have retail and café terraces providing public with access through to the river.
Apartments:
Two towers, (21 and 23 storeys) form the first phase of the development with apartments featuring full length glazing framing views over the river, The O2 Arena, the North Greenwich Pier and the Emirates Air Line cable car.
There are studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments, loft apartments and penthouses.
The individually designed open-plan living spaces vary in terms of shape and character, but all are flooded with light due the staggered building structures and the extensive glass exterior walls. As a result, there are many apartments with dual aspect views and generously sized private balconies.
The most publicised are the apartments in Building 2, styled by Tom Dixon and Design Research Studio: “… robust and industrial materials used throughout lend a strong British narrative and make reference to the history of Greenwich. The interiors strike a contemporary balance combining natural and warm materials like copper, leather and wood with bold sculptural forms”. There are cool, smooth surfaces, polished marble, subtle woods and glossy panels.
No 1 Upper Riverside houses a gym, sky view terrace, a lobby and concierge.
No 2 Upper Riverside is a home to the Renew pool, spa & gym, Tom Dixon lobby, a boardroom, dining event room and the roof terrace.
Buildings 3, 4, 5 commenced in 2016 and completed in May 2020.
